Champion-bred puppies raised with tender love and care.
At Oakridge Leonbergers, our vision is to promote the health and well-being of our dogs through responsible breeding practices. We believe that every dog deserves a loving home, and we are committed to producing healthy and happy puppies that will make great pets for families and individuals alike. We believe that the Leonberger truly is the perfect family dog. Their temperament is unlike any other. Gentle, loving, loyal, and intelligent. All of our Leonbergers are direct imports from overseas and health tested three generations back. Our Leonbergers come from champion bloodlines and we pride ourselves in breeding and raising extraordinary high quality Leonberger puppies. We strive for excellent temperament, outstanding health, remarkable appearance, and brilliant minds.
The Leonberger is a giant dog breed. The breed's name derives from the city of Leonberg in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. According to legend, the Leonberger was ostensibly bred as a 'symbolic dog' that would mimic the lion in the town crest. It is in the Working Group for dog shows such as Crufts.
This Mountain dog comes with a generous double coat; the Leonberger is a large, muscular, and elegant dog with balanced body type, medium temperament, and dramatic presence. The head is adorned with a striking black mask, and projects the breed's distinct expression of intelligence, pride, and kindliness. Remaining true to their early roots as a capable family and working dog and search and rescue dog (particularly water), the surprisingly agile Leonberger is sound and coordinated, with both strength in bearing and elegance in movement. A dimorphic breed, the Leonberger possesses either a strongly masculine or elegantly feminine form, making gender immediately discernible. The breed demonstrates success in such varied activities as water rescue, tracking, agility, obedience, rally, herding, carting, therapy work and other activities involving great strength and agility coupled with a thoughtful, gentle intelligence. Obedience training is a must for young Leonbergers! Classes held outside the home are recommended early in a puppy’s life for both their training and socialization benefits. Leos want to please their owners and be involved in everything their family does, so patient, consistent, positive training will help your puppy become a well adjusted, mannerly family member. Socialization of your puppy is very important. Expose your Leo to a variety of people outside the family, and introduce new places, experiences and other animals in a secure, nurturing manner, especially in the first year of your puppy’s life. Remember, Leonberger puppies grow up fast, can be quite “mouthy,” and energetically rambunctious, so early training and socialization is vital. Leonberger puppies should have daily, supervised play and outdoor exercise time. As they grow, a conscientious owner will introduce new activities in a positive, supportive atmosphere which allows the puppy time to accept and understand each new venture while keeping in mind that activities should be appropriate to the age of the puppy.

The Newfieberger is a mixed breed dog, specifically a cross between a Newfoundland and a Leonberger. These dogs are known for being large, gentle, and loyal, with the Newfoundland's water-loving nature and the Leonberger's friendly disposition.
The massive Newfoundland is a strikingly large, powerful working dog of heavy bone and dignified bearing. The sweet-tempered Newfie is a famously good companion and has earned a reputation as a patient and watchful 'nanny dog' for kids.
In Summary: Newfiebergers are large, gentle giants that inherit traits from both Newfoundland and Leonberger parent breeds. They are known for their affectionate nature, intelligence, and need for exercise and grooming.
Size: Newfiebergers are large dogs, typically weighing between 90 and 140 pounds.
The Newfoundland is a large breed of working dog. They can be black, grey, brown, or black and white. However, in the Dominion of Newfoundland, before it became part of Canada, only black and Landseer (white-and-black) colored dogs were considered to be proper members of the breed. They were originally bred and used as working dogs for fishermen in Newfoundland.
They excel at water rescue/lifesaving because of their muscular build, thick double coat, webbed paws, and swimming abilities.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) standard colours of the Newfoundland are black, brown, grey, and white-and-black (sometimes referred to as a Landseer). Other colors are possible but are not considered rare or more valuable. The Kennel Club (KC) permits only black, brown, and white/black; the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) permits only black and white/black.
The Newfoundland's extremely large bones give it mass, while its large musculature gives it the power it needs to take on rough ocean waves and powerful tides. These dogs have huge lung capacity for swimming extremely long distances and a thick, oily, and waterproof double coat which protects them from the chill of icy waters.
they described two main types of working dogs. One was heavily built, large with a longish coat, and the other medium-sized in build – an active, smooth-coated water dog. The heavier breed was known as the greater Newfoundland, or Newfoundland. The smaller breed was known as the lesser Newfoundland, or St. John's water dog.
Newfoundlands ('Newfs' or 'Newfies') have webbed paws and a water-resistant coat.
Newfoundlands exhibit a very strong propensity to rescue people from water. Today, kennel clubs across the United States host Newfoundland Rescue Demonstrations, as well as offering classes in the field. Many harbor boat tours in St John's have a dog on board for local charm as well as for passenger safety.
Males normally weigh 143–176 lb (65–80 kg), and females 121–143 lb (55–65 kg) , placing them in the "Giant" weight range; but some Newfoundlands have been known to weigh over 90 kg (200 lb) —They may grow up to (56–76 cm) 22–30 in tall at the shoulder.
